A popular revolutionary Left anarchist blog posted an article detailing a strategy heading into January 2025.
The article repeats a theme found among other left wing political resistance groups, which is that Trump will overstep his authority, especially if activists and militants create a situation where he’s forced to, such as in another domestic crisis.
The article also admits that “popular sentiment” forced authorities to drop charges against rioters in 2020. (Analyst Comment: This is true, but is also unlikely to be the case in smaller jurisdictions due to political backlash. Everyday Americans are still tired of the riots and lawlessness of 2020.)
The author claims that Trump’s popularity has not increased, but that Democrats’ popularity has decreased. (Analyst Comment: This is a dire misreading of the situation, although Trump’s relative popularity could wane through a daily media barrage of resistance talking points.)
The author says the movement overall is in worse shape than it was in 2017. The author questions whether anarchists have it in them to mobilize again in the same fashion as 2020. (Analyst Comment: This is a realistic and crucial question. For the past few years, revolutionary anarchists have claimed on blogs and in social media that they’re burned out, and they can’t get their 2020-era comrades to show up to events. Routine direct action demonstrations in the past year have been canceled due lack of involvement, while other events have been met with arrests. As previously and repeatedly covered, militants are being arrested and charged with serious crimes instead of being released without bail. This isn’t 2020 anymore.)
Another challenge is gaining the tacit approval from political bodies, especially Democrats. The author believes that approval or support from rank-and-file Democrat officials will be pivotal in reigniting another 2020-esque uprising, and implies that another sustained national insurrection is dependent upon their approval.
The author adds that the movement has an opportunity to mobilize fired federal employees, including those with insider knowledge of how the U.S. government works. There’s also mention of information leaks by those still working within the federal government. (Analyst Comment: In 2003, Paul Bremer, then-Special Envoy to Iraq and head of the Coalition Provisional Authority, fired Sunnis from the Iraqi Army, which left some 400,000 soldiers without jobs, who then easily fell into the anti-U.S. insurgency. This has to be a consideration for the Trump administration.)
